How will my pet’s recovery be planned?
Plan for approximately 4–5 months of recovery after extracapsular repair. Your dog’s progress determines the pace; this is an expectation, not a guarantee or a fixed return-to-activity date. Follow your veterinarian’s written recovery and recheck instructions.
What is a canine ACL injury?
The cranial cruciate ligament, often called the ACL, helps stabilize a dog’s knee. Injury can cause pain and lameness. An examination and appropriate imaging help your veterinarian evaluate the knee and discuss treatment.
Which surgery do we perform?
Beyond Pets performs extracapsular, or lateral-suture, repair in-house. A strong suture outside the joint helps support the knee during healing.
TPLO and medial patellar luxation (MPL) procedures are assessment and referral services. We do not perform those operations in-house. The recommendation depends on your dog’s examination, size, activity and orthopedic needs.
